Accessibility Consulting
Our insights into the regulations and intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), our associations with the agencies who have created these regulations, and our experience with both public and private sectors make us the industry leading architectural accessibility consulting Experts on the ADA.
The Universal Designers & Consultants (UD&C) staff stays up to date on accessibility trends. We understand the intricacies of code evolution because we participate in and are a voting member of the International Code Council/American National Standards Institute (ICC/ANSI) A117. Our involvement keeps us connected and “in the know” about ever changing accessibility laws and regulations. UD&C President John Salmen, FAIA, has been a voting member of the ICC/ANSI A117 Committee for more than two decades and served on the Editorial Committee for the latest edition of the Standard. In addition, the firm represented the American Institute of Architects (AIA) on the ADA Accessibility Guidelines Review Federal Advisory Committee that developed the revised Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines adopted by the US Department of Justice as the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
Our consulting services include recommendations for compliance with regulations such as:
The Americans with Disabilities Act Guidelines (1991 Standards)
The Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design (2010 ADA Standards)
We can also suggest Universal Design solutions for new construction and existing buildings.
UD&C Clients benefit from our Teams well considered guidance; Accessibility code compliance and analysis is complex, with sometimes vague standards and overlapping requirements. Careful survey and review is necessary to come up with sound and defensible solutions that work within an organization’s business plan. We have the flexibility to tailor our services to support the full range of accessibility issues from individuals with disabilities, large corporations and federal agencies. We manage our team members and technologies to continuously make our work product more efficient and effective. The recommendations we offer our clients are based on over 25 years of experience in the field and are crafted to withstand legal challenges.
